Humperdinck’s beloved adaptation of the Brothers Grimm fairy tale opens at the Met on Christmas Eve, in a new production by Richard Jones featuring imaginative sets and spectacular costumes designed by John Macfarlane (whose work is also on display in a new exhibition in Founders Hall). The title roles of brother and sister will be sung by British mezzo-soprano Alice Coote and German soprano Christine Schäfer, with Russian Maestro Vladimir Jurowski conducting.
