These video blogs are wonderful. Based on these snippets, I suspect that the new production of Macbeth will be quite controversial. But the musical side sounds great. I think Gulegina will be terrific!!!

I think this video blog is superb!. I liked the overall level of singing of this Macbeth, and Guleghina is definitely fantastic. I don´t like this kind of modernistic production, though.

Today I’ve seen the new production of Macbeth in the movie theater. Maria Guleghina was superb as were all the other performers. I have a problem with the new production. I felt like I was watching scenes from a Sibirian Gulag. This is Shakespeare: 16th and 17th century. Please keep it that way. Do not put it in the 21st century. I don’t want to see Verdi’s opera with the old Jeeps on the stage and lady Macbeth running around in a slip or a flimsy nightgown.
I grew up behind the Iron Curtain and seeing the Soviet looking soldiers on the stage of Metropolitan Opera, in a Shakespeare/Verdi Macbeth made me very uncomfortable. Please, do not succumb to the craziness of the European Opera Houses, making everything modern.
There is a place for the new, modern opera and there is a place for the classics.
Maestro Levine was excellent; music, voices superb. I wish Franco Zeffirelli made the stage production. I did not like the modern approach.
